Parking in Méribel in high season is not a formality. The valley is narrow, surface spaces are limited, and parking in the resort becomes a real issue as soon as the school holidays start. A property with parking included removes that problem for the whole of your stay.

Around twenty of our properties have a private space or a garage included in the rental. It is not an extra to negotiate on arrival: the space is part of the property, and it is allocated to you.

Why a parking space matters so much in Méribel

The valley is served by a single road climbing from Les Allues up to Méribel-Mottaret. At busy periods, and on changeover Saturdays in particular, that road concentrates every arrival and departure in the resort. Turning up with a reserved space saves you from circling when everyone else is circling.

Then there is the snow. A car left outside for a week in January needs clearing every day, and sometimes a full scrape before you set off again. A garage or a covered space settles that, and also protects the vehicle from salt and frost.

The real cost of parking in the resort

Paid parking in the resort adds up to a significant amount over a week, on top of the back-and-forth trips to move the vehicle. That item disappears when the space is included with the property, which makes comparing two listings less straightforward than it looks: a slightly more expensive property with parking often works out cheaper overall.

You also need to count the time. Finding a space, giving it up, finding it again the next day: those are minutes taken out of ski days, and a nagging tiredness by the end of the week. An allocated space removes the question from arrival right through to departure.

Private space, garage, shared car park: what we specify

Not all spaces are equal and we do not present them in the same way. A private outdoor space is allocated to your property, but remains exposed to the snow. A garage or covered car park protects the vehicle and makes loading luggage easier. A shared residence car park works on a first-come basis.

Every property page states which of these applies, along with the constraints worth knowing: headroom for vehicles with a roof box, sloping access, distance between the space and the entrance. We know these details because we visit the residences several times a season.

Roof box, van, trailer

This is the point people discover too late: an underground garage rarely takes a vehicle with a roof box on top. Tell us what you drive and what you are carrying, and we will point you to the properties whose access suits.

The same reasoning applies to camper vans, commercial vehicles and cars with a bike or ski rack at the back. These set-ups fit without difficulty at some addresses and not at all at others, and that is information we hold residence by residence.

Driving to Méribel

The climb from Moûtiers is short but winding, and conditions change quickly in winter. Snow-appropriate equipment is compulsory during the winter period in mountain communes: winter tyres or removable devices depending on the regulations in force, worth checking before you leave.

If you are arriving at night or in bad weather, let us know. We will send you the exact access to the space and, where useful, what to do about parking initially before you get into the property.

Check conditions before you drive up

Our weather and snow report and live webcam pages let you see the real state of the valley before you take the road, including the day before you leave.

That mainly helps you choose your timing. Driving up before or after a snowfall is a completely different experience, and shifting your departure by two hours is often enough to make all the difference on the road.

Park the car and forget about it

This is the scenario we recommend. Once settled in, most of our guests do not use their vehicle again all week: the properties we offer are mostly at the foot of the slopes or a short distance from the lifts, and a shuttle links the areas of the valley.

The car becomes useful again for a trip out of the resort, a day in Moûtiers, a big shop or an excursion. The rest of the time it sleeps in the garage, which is exactly what you want from it in the mountains.

Where our properties with parking are located

They are spread across the whole valley. In Méribel-Mottaret, at Le Laitelet and Le Châtelet, several residences have closed garages. In Méribel Centre, the Morel - Altitude 1600 and La Renarde - Les Chalets areas offer allocated spaces immediately next to the entrances.

Lower down, Chandon, Méribel Village and Les Allues have addresses where parking is naturally easier, in a village setting. Le Belvédère, up on the heights, completes the offer with open, easily accessible properties.

Combining parking with ski access

The two criteria are not mutually exclusive: a good number of our properties with a private space are also at the foot of the slopes. That is the most comfortable combination, and the one we recommend when the stay involves children or bulky equipment.

In practice it means unloading the car once, parking it, and carrying nothing for the rest of the week: skis stay in the ski room, the car in the garage, and days start outside the building.

What is included in the rental

Bed linen is put on before you arrive and the end-of-stay clean is included. There are no booking fees and no platform commission: our properties are booked directly with us, which represents up to twenty per cent saving for an identical stay.

We are a local property management team based in the valley. During your stay, you have a single point of contact, reachable on site, from the first exchange through to your departure.

Getting things ready in advance

Lift passes, ski lessons and equipment can be arranged before you arrive. Combined with an allocated parking space, that spares you the two classic first-day queues: the one for parking and the one at the ski shop.

We also send the practical access information before you set off: the route to the residence, the exact location of the space, and how the keys are handed over. None of it has to be sorted out in a rush on the day.

Studios, apartments and chalets with parking

A parking space combines with every format. Our studios suit couples and small families driving up for the week. Our apartments cover the majority of family stays. Our chalets take groups, often with several vehicles — do tell us how many, because the answer is not the same at every residence.

For groups it is often the deciding criterion. Two or three cars to park in a resort neighbourhood in February turn a fine address into a daily headache if parking was not settled at the time of booking.

Ski equipment and the car

A week of skiing by car means a full boot: skis or snowboards, boots, helmets, technical clothing, and sometimes children's gear. A space close to the entrance genuinely changes how you unload, especially when it is snowing as you arrive.

That is why we state the distance between the space and the building door, not just whether parking exists. Ten metres or a hundred metres in the snow with two pairs of skis and a suitcase are not the same story.

Parking in Méribel in summer

Outside the ski season, parking gets noticeably easier throughout the valley. An included space is still useful for a summer stay, though: it lets you leave the car in the shade and head off hiking or cycling from the property without worrying about how long you have parked for.

It is also the season when people come more often with bikes, trailers or bulky kit. Here again, a closed garage makes the stay simpler, and more relaxed.

When to book to be sure of a space

Properties with private parking go faster than the others, particularly for the Christmas and February holidays. If parking is a firm requirement for you, book early and tell us straight away: we filter on that point directly rather than having you work through the whole list.

For January, March and early April stays, availability is more comfortable and prices gentler. That is often the best moment to get both the location and the space.

Coming without a car, the other option

Parking is not compulsory. Méribel can be reached by train to Moûtiers then a transfer, and the valley is served by shuttles between the areas. For a stay devoted purely to skiing from a well-placed property, the car is barely used.

The calculation depends mainly on where you are travelling from and who is in the group. With young children and a lot of equipment, the car remains simpler; for two people from a large, well-connected city, the train usually wins.

Common questions about parking

Is the space really included? Yes, for the properties in this selection. It is part of the rental and is not charged as an extra.

Can we have two spaces? That is possible at some addresses, particularly for chalets and large apartments. Ask at the time of booking and we will check residence by residence.

Do you need snow chains? Winter regulations require appropriate equipment in mountain communes. Check the obligations in force before you leave; in practice, winter tyres are enough in the vast majority of situations on the climb to Méribel.

Can you charge an electric vehicle? That depends on the residence. Ask us before booking and we will tell you exactly what is available on site.
