At ten, you are no longer renting accommodation, you are renting a place. The stay becomes seven days of living together, with its different rhythms, its mixed ski abilities and its evenings that run long. The property has to absorb all of that without anyone feeling cramped.

Five of our properties sleep ten or more. At this size there are not many left in the whole valley, and they are the first to go each season.

A stay for ten is not a stay for eight scaled up

A threshold gets crossed. At eight you can still do everything together: leave at the same time, have lunch at the same time, have dinner at the same time. At ten that is no longer realistic, and trying to impose it wears everyone out.

The groups that have the best week are the ones that accept it from the start: everyone skis at their own pace, and you meet up in the evening. That calls for a property where you can both cross paths and take yourself off, and a location you can leave from and return to without coordination.

Why location matters more here than anywhere else

Coordinating ten people around a shuttle timetable is unrealistic. Staying ski-in ski-out is not a luxury for a group this size, it is what makes the week workable.

Everyone leaves when they are ready, comes back when they have had enough, and nobody waits for anyone in the cold with skis over their shoulder. It is the criterion we put first when a group of ten gets in touch.

The shared spaces make the week

At ten, the living room and the kitchen count for more than the bedrooms. That is where the group comes together, and that is where the week is decided. A fine bedroom will never make up for a lounge where four people have to stand.

So we look first at the real number of seats around the table, the size of the worktop, and the volume of the living room. These are criteria we check on site, not on a floor plan.

Cooking for ten

Making dinner for ten people takes a dishwasher, an oven you can actually use, and enough crockery not to have to wash up between the starter and the main. It sounds obvious and yet it is what is most often missing.

Our large properties are equipped accordingly. Many groups work on a rota: a different team cooks each evening, which is by far the cheapest and most sociable arrangement over a week.

Mixed ski abilities

A group of ten almost always includes a beginner, an experienced skier and the whole spectrum in between. Méribel lends itself to that: the ski area is large, the easy sectors are reachable from several areas, and the links to Courchevel and Val Thorens let the keenest head a long way out for the day.

Our properties for ten people

They are split between Méribel-Mottaret and the areas of Méribel Centre. They include large apartments at Le Laitelet, ski-in ski-out, and our chalets, which offer complete independence.

The chalet comes into its own from ten people upwards. No neighbours to consider, shared spaces sized for a group, and the ability to live without worrying about noise — which is precisely what people are after at this size.

Dividing the bedrooms without falling out

At ten, some bedrooms will inevitably be better than others. The point is not to avoid that but to deal with it in advance: we send you the exact layout, with bed sizes and bathroom access, so that the group can settle it before setting off.

It is a five-minute conversation on the phone that avoids a week of things left unsaid. We much prefer the first option.

The logistics of a group of ten

Three cars, sometimes four, staggered arrivals, a big shop on the first evening. None of that is complicated, provided you have thought about it beforehand.

Our properties with parking included cover part of the need; for the rest, we tell you what parking options there are around the residence. And we adjust the key handover when not everyone arrives on the same day.

The first evening's shopping

Stocking up for ten people on arrival is a serious amount to buy. The shops in the resort are fine day to day, but many groups prefer to do the bulk of the shopping on the way up, in Moûtiers or down in the valley.

We are happy to advise on this depending on your area and your arrival time. It is the kind of detail that saves two hours on the first day.

What is included

Bed linen is made up before you arrive and the end-of-stay clean is included. For ten people, those two services charged separately would come to a significant sum, and they would complicate splitting the costs.

We are a local management team based in the valley: one point of contact for the whole group, reachable on the spot throughout the stay. With a group of ten, the unexpected happens more often, and being responsive counts.

When to book for ten people

As early as possible, and that is no exaggeration. Properties of this size can be counted on one hand with us, and school holiday weeks often go a season in advance.

If your dates are flexible, you will gain a lot: January, March and early April offer availability, gentler rates and a quieter ski area all at once, which is worth having when there are a lot of you.

The rhythm of a week as ten

The groups that come back year after year have all found the same balance: few rules, a meeting point in the evening, and complete freedom on everything else. Trying to synchronise everything produces the opposite of the intended effect.

In practice that means a property where you can cook together, eat together and withdraw when you have had enough. That sequence is what to look at when choosing, more than the square metres.

Drying and storage at ten

Ten people skiing means ten ski suits, twenty gloves and ten pairs of boots to dry every evening. Without a ski locker and somewhere set aside for it, the property becomes unworkable after three days.

It is one of the first things we check on large properties, as much as the number of bathrooms. It never appears in the photos and yet it governs how comfortable the whole week is.

A group of ten in summer

Outside the ski season, these same properties become markedly more affordable. The valley suits group stays in summer: walking, mountain biking, Lac de Tuéda, and evenings outdoors that completely change how the chalet is used.

For a group who want to get together without the budget of a February week, it is the most obvious and the most overlooked option. Availability is far more comfortable.

What we check on a property for ten

We count the real seats around the table, not the place settings advertised. We look at the number of bathrooms and separate WCs, the size of the ski locker, the route from the car park with luggage, and whether there is a lift when the property is not all on one level.

None of these things appear in a photo and they are what decides how comfortable a large group will be. We check them on site each season, which is how we can answer precisely before you commit to anything.
